Client University of Colorado Health (UCHealth)
Completion Date 2020
Location Denver, Colorado

Sturgeon Electric provided the teledata systems for Encore Electric, the construction manager for all low-voltage systems at UCHealth’s Cherry Creek Medical Center, a five-floor facility that features 101,000 square feet of floor space above ground and nearly 187,000 square feet of below-grade parking space on four-plus levels.

A crew of eight Sturgeon Electric technicians installed the network cabling and terminations for voice, data, backbone fiber optics, paging system, and nurse call systems and pulled the cables for the security and distributed antenna systems for cell phone coverage. The work involved nearly 2,100 Cat-6A cables – the equivalent of more than 250,000 feet of Cat-6A cable from the intermediate distribution frame (IDF) and main distribution frame (MDF) closets.

The crew installed 300 strands of fiber optic cabling between five floors and the parking garage MDFs and IDFs and built out one MDF closet and four IDF closets, including racks, wire managers, ladder trays, grounding, and bonding. Because the project advanced during the start of the Covid-19 global pandemic, all workers at the job site adhered to strict disease control measures, including masks and physical distancing, implemented by UCHealth and the general contractor, Swinerton Builders, to prevent the introduction or spread of the coronavirus.
