Glenn Highway: Parks Highway to South Inner Springer Loop Distribution

Client Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF)
Completion Date August 2025
Location Wasilla, Alaska
Completed by Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc.

Sturgeon Electric completed the electrical scope for the Glenn Highway: Parks Highway to South Inner Springer Loop project, transforming approximately 4.5 miles of existing two-lane roadway into a four-lane divided highway with new signalized intersections and highway lighting. The project included two complete traffic signal systems, with signal poles and 50- to 70-foot mast arms, as well as 127 electroliers installed on pile and cast-in-place concrete foundations.

Sturgeon Electric self-performed approximately 42,000 feet of trenching and 60,000 feet of conduit installation while coordinating work within an active highway corridor, beneath active railroad crossings, and around existing water and sewer utilities. The team also coordinated with ITS systems and multiple project stakeholders as roadway geometry and intersection layouts evolved throughout construction.

Working within Alaska’s compressed construction season, Sturgeon Electric used extensive pre-construction planning, utility potholing, winter prefabrication, GPS-based field verification, and efficient excavation methods to maintain productivity and reduce construction risk. Crews adapted sequencing across the 4.5-mile corridor as roadway access and construction phases changed, completing the project with no recordable incidents and minimal punch-list work.
