December 5, 2022 Colorado Springs District Makes Spirit Bright For Children’s Hospital Patients

STURGEON ELECTRIC LIGHTS PATIENT AMBASSADOR’S HOME AND CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL COLORADO, COLORADO SPRINGS

Each year, Sturgeon Electric partners with local children’s hospitals to spread holiday cheer to patients and their families.

This year, the tradition continued as Sturgeon Electric lights a Children’s Colorado patient ambassadors’ home on December 5, 2022. Sturgeon also provided holiday lighting for the new Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs, which opened in 2019. Sturgeon Electric Company’s founders are credited with having invented the outdoor Christmas light tradition.

ABOUT HAVANA

The patient ambassador, 7-year-old Havana, was surprised and thrilled to return to her home and see them decorated with holiday lights.

A few days after Havana was born, her parents were given the awful news that their baby girl had a severely deformed valve in her heart. The condition would likely be fatal. Initially too small for the surgery that could save her life, Havana grew enough to have an operation at the Children’s Hospital Colorado Heart Institute. It was a temporary fix for her valve. Cardiology experts at Children’s Colorado ultimately determined that a heart transplant would give her the best likelihood of survival. At a little more than 2 months old, Havana got her new heart. Today, the little girl is a healthy elementary schooler, who loves fish and wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up.

Generous support from the community helps bring care closer to home for kids and families in southern Colorado. To be part of this fundraiser, please make your donation before Dec. 31, 2022, to Children’s Colorado Foundation.
