Sturgeon Electric makes spirits bright for more than 100 years!

David Dwight “D.D.” Sturgeon has been credited for inventing the Christmas lights tradition in 1914 when he painted light bulbs and strung them on tall pine trees outside his ailing son’s bedroom window to bring him some cheer for the holiday.

The tradition continued for the company and 2021 was no exception.

Each year, Sturgeon Electric partners with local children’s hospitals to spread holiday cheer to patients and their families.

For the fourth year in a row, the Colorado Springs team participated in the Give Comfort & Joy fundraising initiative by donating and stringing holiday lights to surprise a Children’s Hospital Colorado Patient Ambassador.

This year, seven-year-old Nyssa was the adorable recipient of the surprise! While Nyssa and her parents were out for the day, Sturgeon Electric’s team strung colorful lights on the home and donated a giant inflatable Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for her yard. When Nyssa returned, she was thrilled to see her home beautifully illuminated for the holidays.

Nyssa has Turner Syndrome, a chromosomal abnormality that can cause a wide range of life-threatening medical issues. Originally given less than 2 percent chance of surviving to full term, Nyssa defied the odds and is now a spunky, spirited little girl.

To be part of this fundraiser, please make your donation before Dec. 31, 2021, to Children’s Colorado Foundation

In Arizona, Sturgeon Electric employees, partners, family, and friends joined together to support and fundraise for Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Ignite Hope program. They gathered at the hospital campus for a candlelit walk to bring joy and hope to patients this holiday season.

Sturgeon Electric finished as the top fundraiser out of 159 teams. With the help of amazing supporters, they raised $9,500 for the program – more than $3,000 more than the second-place fundraiser.

Donations raised by Sturgeon Electric benefit the Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Annual Child Life Toy program which provides new toys to every child admitted into the hospital and their siblings to bring a little holiday cheer to more than 300 families. It allows parents to focus on their child’s recovery without worrying about shopping for gifts. This program also provides toys for Child Life Specialists at the hospital to use as tools to bring children joy and encourage their recovery while they are at the hospital.

With your support, we can provide toys to the children who need them the most. Learn more: The Child Life Toy Program – YouTube

Thank you to everyone at Sturgeon Electric who participated in these amazing causes. We are grateful to have a job that allows and encourages us to give back to the communities in which we work and live.

Wishing you all a happy holiday and a safe and healthy new year!
