Electric Vehicle Supply Infrastructure Program

Client Xcel Energy
Completion Date Ongoing
Location Colorado

Sturgeon Electric is helping Xcel Energy advance electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in Colorado through the Transportation Electrification Plan, a comprehensive, multi-year program that will give its Colorado customers more opportunity to access and benefit from EVs, whether they drive one or use transportation services that use them. Our turnkey services for these EV infrastructure projects include design, installation of high-voltage infrastructure and electrical and secondary metered service, and maintenance of the system once functional.

Sturgeon Electric line and transportation crews have completed work at 80 sites in 2021 and anticipate working on hundreds more during 2022. They have installed primary and secondary power for EV chargers for various Xcel customers throughout the state, from public school districts to multi-family residential developers and EV car dealerships. For this work, we have collaborated with numerous vendors and installed several brands of chargers. Most recently, we installed chargers on a bus depot that will accommodate electric school buses that Aurora Public Schools plans to add to its fleet. Xcel’s Transportation Electrification Plan complements the state’s goal of having 940,000 electric vehicles on the road by 2030 and the company’s vision to reduce carbon 80 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels and to provide 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2050.
