Sturgeon Electric Attends Groundbreaking for the New Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center, Scheduled to Open in 2020

September 20, 2018

On Thursday, September 20, Sturgeon Electric attended the groundbreaking for the new Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center (OMC). Denver Health representatives and elected officials gathered around shovels to communicate Denver’s great benefit to having access to this new patient-centered facility which will significantly increase the hospital’s capacity to see outpatients.

Denver Health provides medical care to nearly one-third of Denver’s population – offering preventative, primary, and acute services to under- and uninsured patients in our communities and improving quality of life. As the city’s population grows, the demand for quality healthcare rises. The OMC is being built to improve Denver Health’s capacity.

Sturgeon Electric was awarded this “Target Value Design” project by Turner Construction and Denver Health based on team performance and best value. Target Value Design is a collective process involving designers, builders, suppliers, and estimators collaborating to produce a design that provides the best value to the Owner. Budget (the target value) is a design criterion. Sturgeon Electric helped set the target value for our scope and then drove the design to fit the estimated overall value from the start. The project was funded by an Elevate Denver bond program approved by voters in 2017. Sturgeon Electric and the rest of the team worked together to bring all scopes within the grant budget.

Another factor that Turner Construction found important was utilizing teams with an understanding of Lean Project Delivery Practices. Representatives from each organization working on the OMC have been trained and have received their Certificate of Management – Lean Construction accreditation. The project utilizes these practices to encourage team collaboration and improve project efficiency. The methods used help the team capture, implement, measure, and share continuous improvements throughout the construction process.

Scheduled to open its doors to patients in 2020, the OMC shares Denver Health’s mission to provide care for all. In addition to expanding capacity, the OMC will provide high quality health care including a day surgery center, lab services, Pharmacy operations, and radiology. The building will significantly increase Denver Health’s ability to provide treatment for heart disease, cancer, diabetes, dental, and behavioral and mental health.

Sturgeon Electric is proud to be a part of the construction team for a new, state-of-the-art facility that will greatly enhance Denver Health’s ability to provide healthcare services to Colorado’s populations.
